Finding Your Passion & Making It Your Job -- Hyogo Oku

Q.1 Emma also suggests it is important to do multiple work placements in a range of careers. That way you can choose a job based on knowledge and experience rather than assumptions, hearsay and expectations. Is this something you would like to try? If so, how could you make it happen?

That is something I'd like to try. To make it happen, I should change jobs many time in my life. It is difficult that finding job which suits me, so i should try some job which I'm interesting in. In my country, it is thought that working hard at same workplace is better than trying some kind jobs. However, in my opinion, I should try some kind jobs and have many experience in my life. That will make my life be more happy and satisfying. Also I think it is not important that working in big company. Working in place which I want to work is much better than that.

Q.2 Emma characterizes herself as a wide achiever rather than a high achiever and suggests that the 'portfolio career' where one does a range of part time, freelance and contract jobs will become more common. Can you see yourself having such a career?

Yes, I can. My dream is traveling and working all over the world lately, so it might be impossible that I work same place because I will trave some country. Actually, I don't have dream of job, but I want to work at place which I can talk with people and corporate with other worker. I think it is good for me that have portfolio career to make my dream come true.

Q.3 Finally, Emma says when it comes to work, "ultimately it is all about happiness." Do you agree? What would be the one thing, above all else, that would make you happy in a job?

Yes, I do. In my view, having great relationship with worker who work in same place is most important things that make me happy in a job. I can work hard, if I have great worker in spite of the fact that I have a job which I don't really like. Actually, I used to work in a restaurant when I live in Japan. I didn't really like the job, but I liked working in there because of my colleague.

  1. I also don’t have a specific dream job yet, but I’d like to work not only in Japan but also in many other countries on business trips. However, since I like to complete one task perfectly, I think it would be difficult for me to have a portfolio career.
