Aguri Uno - Red Dog

    Red Dog is a fiction novel by British writer Louis de Bernieres. This book is based on a true story about a dog in Western Australia in the 1970s. Moreover, there is a movie which is a story of Red Dog.

    The main characters in the novel are Red Dog, John who is a bus driver, Nancy who is John's girlfriend, and John's colleagues. Red Dog always hasn't a real owner, so he is freely, although he is loved by many people. Some people try to give foods, a house which is comfortable for Red Dog. However, he usually stayed for a while and went somewhere else sooner or later. One day, Red Dog met a man called John. He is kind to everybody and dogs as well. Red Dog started to think that John is his favorite person who I met so far. And then, Red Dog always followed John, and They go to many places in Australia. Red Dog is also loved by John's colleagues and Nancy, so he has a good time spending with them. Unfortunately, John got into traffic accident when he is heading to his house, and he died soon. On the other hand, Red Dog was waiting John for a long time because he doesn't realize that John's death. Finally, Red Dog decided to look for John by himself, and starts to travel all over Western Australia. 

    I was moved the Red Dog's loyalty to John. I think that this book's theme is loyalty and love. Dogs are able to show strong loyalty and respect for people even if people leave or pass away. That's why most of the readers relate to be emotionally.

    There is a strength into this book. The first one is that this is made in small episodes about the Red Dog adventures. Therefore, the reader can enjoy all the every time without being bored because of different stories. The second is that different characters talk their own memories of Red Dog. They always tell the adventures and humors story of the dog, so the reader is excited to see many angle of Red Dog. On the other hand, there is a weakness in this book. My criticism would be that most of the characters such as John and Nancy appear briefly. They didn't develop deeply. I think it is better to write about more detail to these people not only  Red Dog.

    This book is really heart-warming and a little bit sad story, but it also familiar with loyalty of dogs in our life. I think this book told that it is important to spend precious times if you have a pet like a dog, a cat because we can't predict what happen in the future and also when our pets will die.
